Engage in some form of Physical Activity
· Our bodies were not made to be static we need to move our muscles
and bones to keep them strong. The term “use it or lose it” applies to our
bodies and movement.
·
Studies show that physical activity makes bones stronger and help prevent
osteoporosis and osteoarthritis. There is also evidence physical activity helps
to reduce the risk for developing cardiovascular disease, certain types of
cancers, diabetes, etc.
·
Select
a physical activity that you enjoy doing, not because your friend or family is
doing it. Remember, if you do not enjoy it, you will not keep it up.
·
Find a
buddy to exercise with; it can be a friend, a co-worker, your spouse, your
child, etc. This is helpful because you motivate and encourage each other.
·
Physical activity does not mean you have to join a gym, it can be walking,
jogging, running, using resistance bands, Pilates, yoga, personal trainers, etc.
Whatever you choose, make sure it fits your lifestyle.
If you can walk, we encourage the use of a pedometer. It is simple
to use. Both adults and children can use it and it serves as a great motivator.
Visit
the WTA catalog to
purchase a pedometer. It comes with complete instructions on how to
use it and how to log your steps.
